Siv Lier (b. 1978) is a Norwegian designer, researcher and educator with a PhD in Artistic Research from the University of Bergen, 2026. She is currently a teacher in Arts Education at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL).

Lier is interested in the relationship we have with the things we surround ourselves with, and how this shapes our behavior and consumption. She is originally a furniture designer yet her practice also includes installations, publications, events and more. As a furniture designer her aim is to create pieces people care for and take care of, which is why her furniture have a friendly appearance that invite interaction. Most are made from natural materials, and have parts that are easy to repair or replace when worn out.

For the last decade Lier’s interest has expanded beyond furniture design, and moved from a product oriented practice towards a more process oriented one. Starting as a PhD fellow in 2018, she began her exploration of the entanglements between humans, nature and design, aiming for what she calls a more resonant design practice.
